ENGAGE: Facilitating Dialogue between Employers and Engineering, Physical Sciences and Materials Academics in Higher Education.

A Higher Education Academy funded employer engagement project.

The overall aims of the project are:
  • To facilitate constructive dialogue between employers and academics in Higher Education (HE).
  • To develop a common understanding of the skills agenda relating to engineering, physical sciences and materials disciplines in HE.
  • To build capacity for future collaboration, including identifying further funding and potential employer engagement projects.

The project will facilitate dialogue between employers and academics and other key partner organisations who are stakeholders in the employability of engineering, physical sciences and materials graduates. The project will build on work already started through the Engineering Network Meetings and on research undertaken by the New Engineering Foundation on ‘The Pathway to Productivity: The Progress of Work-Based Learning Strategies in Higher Education Engineering Programmes[1].

Four working groups are being formed to take forward discussions on key areas, each group with a lead and deputy co-ordinator.

Topic themes for the four working groups:
  1. Work-based learning.
  2. Levers and enablers (including funding and accreditation).
  3. Staff development/management of change.
  4. Building partnerships.
